Valuable Mirror of Truth #17: Christmas: Remembrance of a Greater Purpose

Christmas, Christmas, Christmas.  The seasons come and go. Most people acknowledge that December 25th is the holiday we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ (even though we don’t know the exact day He was born). Christmas long ago symbolized love, hope, peace, and goodwill towards men. Over the years, Christmas has become increasingly commercialized through festive traditions, shopping, gift-giving, and decorating houses and trees.  Now, don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of good things happening during this season. I merely want to encourage you not to lose sight of the substance of the season, for when the season is over, where does it leave you? Today, I want to offer you a perspective on the remembrance of a greater purpose.  To help you see the full picture, I want to draw your attention to the letters of the word “CHRISTMAS.”  I want you to see things that are associated with Christmas to compare what’s “seasonal” versus what’s “eternal.”

As you reflect, are you more focused on a seasonal life that could possibly leave you with financial strain, exhaustion, loneliness, and post-holiday blues, or a life of eternal value (never seasonal) that came through a baby gift-wrapped in swaddling clothing, lying in a manger?  I am bringing you good tidings of great joy.  Your season can become eternal because Jesus Christ, our Saviour, was born.  He is more than the gifts under your tree; He is the gift that was hung on a tree (cross) just for you.  He is the gift that keeps on giving. You can remember Christ through Christmas and all year long.
